Inspire Roofing Installation

Quick & Easy Installation

Inspire slates are extremely easy and quick to install with a nail gun or hammer using copper or stainless steel nails up to 40mm in length depending on batten size. The slates can be cut with a Stanley knife. Each slate has pre-marked, recessed nailing locations for correct fixing that offer protection against water infiltration. Each piece features overlap reference marks corresponding to roof pitch as well as horizontal spacers to ensure quick, accurate installation.

Inspire slates are suitable for being fixed using pneumatic nail guns. This will save a considerable amount of time. Acro stainless steel, ring shank, flat head nails are available in coils of 1800 nails (45x2.5mm). These can be nailed using Paslode pneumatic guns. There may be other options that are more suitable to the intended purpose, as well.

ROOF PITCHES + SLATE REQUIREMENTS

For battened roofs that are most common in Australia, the minimum roof pitch is 22.5 degrees. Inspire may be used down to 14 degree pitches but only if the roofs are boarded (according to the US manufacturers).

The following table provides guidelines on pitch and gauge in relatively benign wind conditions. Strong winds and rain will require more conservative lapping.

NB. Wastage will be around 5% if hips and valleys are in even proportion but could be as high as 10% for more challenging roofs. 3 slates per lineal metre are required for the eaves course. 5.5 ridge caps per lineal metre are required for ridges

RIDGE CAPS + ACCESSORIES

Ridge caps, are available in matching colours to the slates (see image left). Matching ridge caps achieve a neatness and harmony to the roof with no break in colour or texture. Pewter & plum ridge caps are in stock.

Some of our customers prefer to use terracotta ridge caps and have asked about adhesives. Flexipoint is certainly an option worth considering.

Other customers prefer copper or lead roll similar to the ridge capping used on many heritage buildings.
